MatchZone Tournament Rules
Last Updated: July 6, 2026
This document contains the General Rules applicable to all tournaments on the Platform and the Specific Rules for Valorant.
PART 1: General Rules
1. Teams and Owner Responsibility
- Team Creation: By logging in via Discord and registering for a tournament, the user becomes the Team Owner.
- Responsibility: The Team Owner bears full responsibility for the behavior, communication, and rule compliance of all members they invite to their team.
- Team Name and Visuals: The team name and any uploaded avatar must not contain vulgar, offensive, racist, political, pornographic, or otherwise inappropriate expressions, and must not violate copyrights or applicable laws. The administrator holds final authority on the appropriateness of names or avatars and is authorized to rename a team, delete an avatar, or disqualify a team without prior warning.
2. Registration and Attendance Confirmation (Check-in)
- Team Composition: The Team Owner is required to invite the appropriate number of teammates according to the specific game mode requirements.
- Attendance Confirmation: Once the team is full, the Team Owner must confirm attendance (perform a Check-in) no later than 15 minutes before the scheduled tournament start time.
- Unconfirmed Teams: Teams that do not confirm their attendance in time may be removed from the tournament without prior notice.
3. Tournament Capacity and Bracket Generation
- Conditions for Start: A tournament will only start if at least 4 teams successfully register and confirm attendance, and the total number of players across all teams reaches at least 20.
- Maximum Capacity: The standard tournament limit is 32 confirmed teams. If interest is higher, the administrator reserves the right to remove excess teams (based on an early confirmation basis) or increase the tournament capacity.
- Bracket Seeding: Matchups for the tournament bracket are generated randomly by the system.
- Odd Number of Teams: In the event of an odd number of confirmed teams, randomly selected teams will receive an automatic advancement to the next round (a "BYE").
4. Code of Conduct and Fair Play
- Any attempt to cheat, exploit game bugs, use unauthorized software (hacks), or display toxic behavior towards opponents or administrators will be penalized with the immediate disqualification of the entire team from the tournament and a potential permanent ban on the Platform.
PART 2: Specific Rules for Valorant
1. Match, Side, and Map Settings
- Side Determination: After a match is generated in the bracket, the system randomly determines which team starts as Attackers and which as Defenders. If the game mode includes side-switching, teams will swap sides after the first half of the match.
- Map Selection: The map for each match is generated completely at random by the system based on the selected tournament mode. Maps are not unique within a tournament – the same map may be generated multiple times in a row.
- Finality: Generated sides and maps are final and cannot be changed upon player request.
2. Lobby Joining and Match Start
- Lobby Creation: A tournament administrator will create the game lobby, configure it properly according to the mode rules, and generate a Party Code.
- Lobby Access: This code will be visible to Team Owners on the Platform. The Team Owner is required to join the lobby immediately and invite all of their teammates.
- Waiting Time: A team has a maximum of 10 minutes from the time the code is shared to appear in the lobby in full numbers. If a team fails to arrive, the administrator may issue a default loss (forfeiture) against them in favor of the opponent.
- Match Progression: At least one Platform administrator oversees the matches. Matches within the same tournament round do not have to be played simultaneously (depending on the availability of administrators or game slots).
3. In-Game Conduct and Prohibited Actions
- Players must not disrupt the flow of the match in any way (e.g., intentional disconnecting, stalling the game, sending offensive messages in the game chat).
- In the event of technical issues (player disconnection), the game will follow the standard in-game pause options unless the administrator decides otherwise.
4. Scoring, Recognition, and Leaderboard
- The tournament is strictly for competitive purposes. Only players whose teams finish in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place will receive a cosmetic achievement on their Platform profile and points for the overall Leaderboard.
- These points for the top three teams consist of:
- Points based on the team's final placement in the tournament (1st, 2nd, or 3rd place).
- Points based on individual performance statistics (Average Combat Score – ACS) accumulated during the tournament.
